Before our meeting I was nervous as it was something that was hard for me to face up to but almost immediately I felt at ease and everything just seemed to flow after our session together. It was apparent to me from the start that Paul was trust worthy and patient, both of which are attributes I feel are needed to help battle a drink problem.
Literally straight after the first session I felt a rush of positivity when I left his office and I realised that this was the start of something that was going to shape the rest of my life. During the sessions we talked pretty much about everything from my past, my family and all the triggers to my binge drinking problem.
As Paul said we had all of the jigsaw pieces now we were going to put them together. And that is what happened. I learnt how to interpret my emotions, confront them and use the rational part of my mind to break the habit.
During our sessions I socialised on a couple of occasions and was in situations where previously I would have binged but using what I had learnt, the evenings went from a drunk regretful blur to having a good positive time.

Paul really helped me with my problems with insomnia. He made me change my negative thoughts towards sleep and I felt less anxious about it which in turn helped me to sleep. He is very welcoming and approachable and was happy for me to speak to him outside my appointment for advice on what to do about my sleep.

I approached Paul during a recent episode of work related anxiety. At this time I was very tearful, lacked confidence, losing my appetite and my sleep patterns were affected. I had suddenly come to the realisation that I have a very rigid way of approaching my employment duties and I was unable to cope if the behaviour of third parties jeopardised this in any way.
I would instantly fall in to a state of panic and could not think properly. This had happened on 2 other occasions in workplace situations and I felt it was time that I had to address my behaviour and implement some ways of trying to deal with this.
With Paul’s’ help I learnt to take 1 day at a time and not expend unnecessary energy thinking what may or may not happen. It took me a long time to realise that we cannot change the attitude and behaviour of others but I could change my reaction to certain situations.
After my sessions with Paul finished I came to face one of my worst fears, the death of a close family member. I had always dreaded this day as I felt that I would not be able to cope. However, using the techniques that Paul had taught me, I managed to cope very well with the situation and was surprised at my inner strength.
I'm pleased to say that recently I have been enjoying much more positive times. I'm now in a new job which I am thoroughly enjoying as I no longer experience the feelings of anxiety that had come with so many jobs before.

I have to say Paul, as I said in my previous e-mail, that you have helped me tremendously and for that I am eternally grateful. I can’t remember the last time I felt so positive and light in mood and attitude over the autumn/winter time and over Christmas.
I contacted Paul at a particularly dark period of my life. I have struggled with OCD for as long as I can remember, but it was always in trivial ways such as being extra neat and tidy. Around 4 months ago however, OCD developed into something much bigger and more aggressive for me.
After a few weeks of mental torture, I finally stumbled upon an article that explained how OCD will attack the very things most important to you.
Naturally I started researching how to overcome the obsession and mental torture, in my research all signs pointed towards one mode of treatment: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I decided that I would do whatever it took to overcome my issues and sought out the best in my local area for help. Many therapists claimed to help OCD, but Paul was the only one that emphasised his practice being based on CBT.
It took 3 hour round trips to make the appointments, but it was worth it. Paul made it very clear from the outset that treating OCD is not an overnight sensation, which I respected and it helped to lay a good foundation for progression. I became better equipped to deal with the anxiety and learnt the steps to help me move on without obsessing.
